Wireless CCTV Camera

Wireless CCTV camera systems are gaining increasing popularity as a security solution for schools, businesses and even homes, because of their convenience and affordability. CCTV stands for Closed Circuit TeleVision and is basically a system in which a video camera is connected to a monitor, either with the use of cables or, in the case of wireless systems, using a transmitter/receiver setup.

CCTV cameras may also be connected to a video recorder, which can either be viewed in real-time or stored for later review. Depending on your needs, your system may also use several cameras which will either be linked through a multiplexer or in the case of IP cameras, through the Internet.

There are a wide range of wireless CCTV camera products available, designed to meet a variety of surveillance requirements. Here are some of them:

1. Hidden CCTV cameras are designed to look like other objects, such as clocks or toys, so that people in the surveillance area won’t know they are being watched. These cameras may not offer the clearest image quality, however, due to the necessity of making them as compact as possible to avoid detection.

2. Pan-tilt-zoom cameras allow the camera to enjoy a wide range of movement, providing the broadest possible monitoring of a particular area. To illustrate, PTZ cameras can move up, down or sideways and can even zoom in on a particular person or object for a closer view. They can be programmed in advance or controlled by an operator.

3. Infrared or night-vision CCTV cameras allow video to be taken in dark or near-dark conditions. However, the maximum distance at which they can still generate a clear image is limited.

4. Dome CCTV cameras are encased in dome-shaped housing to protect them both from the elements (when used outside) and vandals. Dome housing is also commonly used with PTZ cameras since they allow the camera the widest freedom of movement.

5. CCTV box cameras are cameras in a rectangular housing. They are ideal for long-distance surveillance, since the lens can be extended to zoom in on a particular detail. Their main drawback, however, is that they work best when lighting is bright and may not generate satisfactory images in lower light conditions.
